STRYMONAS RIVER

After the village of Byronia in the direction of Megalochori, we come across a one-way bridge over the river Strymonas. To the right and to the left of this bridge there are the borio and south embankments of the river. On the northern embankment we find the marshes of Byronia – landscapes of extraordinary beauty with privies flooded by water. On the southern embankment and after 7 Km we meet Bouvalia at the Triantafyllos pond and from there we reach by road the riparian forest and the mouth of Strymonas in the lake. After the bridge, the eastern embankment of the lake begins, which with the southern embankment of Strymons creates a triangle which is a point of unique beauty, the best in the lake. If we continue along the eastern embankment and after the fishing port of Chrysochorafon, we reach the Lithotopos dam. From there, in a northerly direction, we cross the asphalted path of the western embankment and after 17 km we reach the port of Kerkini. A little further north we find the port of Livadia. In this way we circle almost the entire lake. Binoculars are ideal equipment for bird watching.
