At the roots of Mount Kerkini is Lake Doirani. The life of the lake is many centuries old and famous for its delicious grivadias. Interesting is the coastal route from the customs office of Doirani to its northern end in the watery forest of Mouria (Thousand Trees).

This forest with an area of 750 acres and which is protected by NATURA 2000 (GR 1230002) consists of mixed forests of oak, elm, birch and sycamore. It is also a remarkable migratory station for birds.
